Read more results below from the (Bureau of Justice Statistics) BJS's 2018 report, Criminal Victimization, which highlights data from the National Criminal Victimization Survey.
According to the report:
- The number of violent-crime victims age 12 or older rose from 2.7 million in 2015 to 3.3 million in 2018, an increase of 604,000 victims, or approximately 22%
- Only 11% of victims of violent crime received services from a victim services agency; those rates were higher, however, among victims of intimate partner violence and victims of violent crime who suffered an injury
- The rate of violent victimizations not reported to the police per 1,000 persons increased nearly 36% from 2015 to 2018 (from 9.5 per 1,000 to 12.9 per 1,000)
